Our Perfumer #1 - Aliénor Massenet

French perfumer,
Creator of Symbol for a Lady for Parfums Marina de Bourbon

What is your fondest olfactory memory?

One of my fondest olfactory memories is from my childhood. I have always loved taking care of animals. As a child, it was one of my favorite activities, I had dogs that I took care of. I used to

prepare bélines for puppies that could no longer be breastfed. The smell of this preparation has marked my olfactory memory. I remember with accuracy an intense feeling of comfort when smelling this very milky vanilla. The pleasant, sweet scent still transports me to these candid memories.

What is your greatest dream?

From the age of 20, I defined my dream outlines. I wanted to work with scents and raw materials to create not only perfumes but also to work towards the recognition of perfumery as an art.

For me, having a dream means doing everything to make it come true. I live mine every day, it's a great opportunity.

Today, I am extending my dream so that the sense of olfaction is more widely recognized throughout the world. Perfume can be applied in many fields such as medicine, technology and of course art. With Covid, people realize that they have a sense of smell and that they can lose it. There is a real awareness of the importance of this sense, which has long been largely underused, but which we need to live and feel emotions.

This continuation of the dream would be to create an olfactory exhibition to initiate a dialogue between the arts. Perfume can still surprise us. We must never stop dreaming.

Did you know Marina de Bourbon before working with us?

I have known the Maison Marina de Bourbon for a long time. I had the opportunity to discover it in a shop that sold its perfumes opposite the Louvre, where I often go to recharge my batteries.

What does Symbol for a Lady mean to you?

When I composed Symbol for a Lady, I wanted to create a very feminine and classic fragrance that would be very easy to wear and elegant in all circumstances. It's a fragrance that evolves well on the skin, you feel good with it because it's very delicate.

Which personality inspires you the most?

I like the Belgian artist Philippe Geluck for his authentic personality and his singular style that has endured over the decades. He managed to bring comfort to people with his open-air exhibition "Le Chat" on the Champs Elysées. Not only is he very funny, but he is also daring and does not care about fashion or how others look at him. Everything is a joke with him, he does not take himself seriously, yet his humour also makes you think. Philippe Geluck continued to create during the pandemic with the ultimate goal of bringing joy to people and making them laugh. What a talent!

What are your favorite ingredients in Symbol for a Lady? What is the storyline?

The top notes express a freshness slightly tinged with fruity accents of bergamot and peach.
The heart is woven around the elegance of white flowers with Ylang Ylang and Jasmine.

What do they mean to you?

I built this creation around Ylang Ylang. This intense flower reveals all its elegance with its luminous and ultra-feminine notes at the heart of the composition. It is a bewitching flower, I love working with it in my creations.

It is a composition that is harmonious and without excess. I have worked with subtlety so that each raw material finds its place. This search for the right balance makes the composition elegant and tasteful.

What does the woman wearing Symbol for Lady reminds you of?

The perfume reinforces the elegance of the woman who will wear it. She will feel transported in a light and joyful olfactory cloud that will accompany her throughout the day.

It is intended for a woman who is beautiful and sure of her natural beauty. She doesn't need to overdo it, nor to be noticed. It is the innate elegance of high society.
